Choosing Private School Versus Public School for Your Child

For many years, parents have debated whether public school or private school is best for their child or children. While obviously the most important objective of sending a child to school is for him or her to receive an education, not all schools are created equally. When you are deciding whether a public or private elementary school in Florida is the right choice for your child, consider cost, class size and range of extracurricular activities.

Cost

Most people are aware that public school education is more costly than public education. While public education is funded by the government, private tuition is the responsibility of the parent or guardian. Paying for private school education requires careful financial planning and is a major consideration when deciding to choose private education for your child.

Class Size

Private schools typically have smaller class sizes than public schools, which means more one-on-one instruction for your child. In larger public schools, though, your child may have a larger group of peers to form friendships and bonds with. However, being in a smaller class size can also benefit your child’s social life as it can be easier when he or she knows everyone in the class.

Range of Extracurricular Activities

Public schools may have a wider range of extracurricular activities such as sports, but at a private school, you child may be able to better focus on one activity. There may also be trainers available at a private school to help your child excel at his or her activity.

Deciding whether to send your child to public or private school is a major decision but with careful planning and prioritizing you can help make the right decision for your child. No child has the exact same needs as another, so every child’s educational decisions must be made on a case by case basis.
